Re: So Many Roads........ of Pig |
gotta have "Hard to Handle" - inimitable opening 'Bay-ay-bee" vocals. Personally though, I can live without some of his 15 minute raps - get to the goods!

Re: So Many Roads........ of Pig |
uj--I see we agree on a number of things...early era fan I be, I rarely listen to the PP numbers, the raps I find esp tiresome (won't go into the implications, etc., we've all been over that aspect), and much prefer a simple song like Operator.
I do, however, tend to cringe during the "Bay Beeee" intro myself (H2H), esp when non heads are in the vicinity...

I agree ( except H2H ). I like the Easy Wind , Caution , Same Thing type of Pig .
Some of his raps are amazing , though .

Re: So Many Roads........ of Pig |
(bumping fists) Forgot about Operator, doesn't show up often, only played 4 times live - good little song.
If some find Bobby banshee endearing, I can let Pig out on a leash for a Bay-Bee. (Now wait a minute!)

Re: So Many Roads........ of Pig |
Ha!
Yeah, as you and micah allude to, though, I really thought his true niche was the almost "solo" style, blues-esque, down in the dumps, life done me wrong sorts of tunes...Operator is a more upbeat example, of course. But the in your face, leader of the dance band "production" was his calling in the early live shows, IMHO (ie, the long numbers with the raps).
For me, having been obsessed with the Early Era so long, the raps and such for some of his songs (MHr, LL, GMLSG) just became somewhat repetitive, etc., so I wore myself out on em. I do recognize that the big show stopping number was all PP in those early yrs, however diminished he might have been in terms of other contributions to the "production"!

Re: So Many Roads........ of Pig |
it just takes so long to get to that Mojo hand...
would've liked to hear more Pig on the harp.
as to non-heads in the vicinity, let 'em eat cake!
